On Wednesday March 26, 1913 the previous bridge was destroyed by flood waters that were 15 feet higher on the Scioto than the Ohio. Henry Ruel built a temporary bridge to use during the construction of this bridge in 1914. On November 20 1915, this, the Sixth (6th) bridge over the Scioto was opened to traffic. The Second Street bridge, as it was also known, was closed in 1997 and was removed in 1998.
