A guarantee is on the side of the box: "The Ambassador Wood Heels contained in this carton are guaranteed to be free from all defects in material and workmanship. Each pair is carefully inspected to insure our highest standard of quality." The 1921 Sanborn Fire Map of Portsmouth shows at the southwest corner of Jefferson and Fourth (4th) Streets: "Vulcan Last Co., Wood Heel Plant"
