- Black and white photo image of the "Colored School" in Portsmouth. The school building was located on Eleventh (11th) Street and was erected in 1875, built primarily for African American students. The six room school could accommodate 350 students. It was opened for classes on September 1, 1876. In 1926, it was replaced by the Washington School, a more modern structure.
