- Photo image of scanned scrapbook page. Pictured is two black and white photos of Charles Burt, prominent Portsmouth citizen and the house of Dr. Hemstead (Hempstead). Dr. Hempstead was a prominent physician in Portsmouth in the early 1800's, known for his determination to help his patients. In Nelson W. Evans' History of Scioto County, it was said that Dr. Hempstead would sometimes ride fifty miles just to help a patient.
