Description: Formerly Schaefer's Food Market from about 1900 until the early 1940s. The grocery store was run by Joseph P. Schaefer and Sons. In the mid-1940s, Schaefer's branched out with larger super markets in the region. The original building was used as a warehouse for many years.
In 1978 the building housed Portsmouth Wholesale Furniture. In 1980, Vaspar Paint Center. By 1991 the building was independently owned.
