Changes to hoopla Digital
Changes to hoopla Digital
Beginning April 1, SCPL will implement a monthly budget cap of $3,000 on our hoopla service. This means that once the library has spent its budgeted amount of money on hoopla checkouts per day, no more checkouts will be allowed until the next day begins.
So, WHY are we making this change after we already limited the amount of check-outs per patron to 6? Unfortunately, changing the amount of checkouts did not have any impact on the expenditures each month with some months incurring costs 67% higher than budgeted.
FAQs
When will the change take place?
The new limit of 6 will begin on January 1, 2025.
Why the change?
hoopla’s current pricing model charges the library per checkout which can vary greatly in quantity from month to month. This makes budgeting for hoopla unpredictable and, due to its popularity, the library has seen costs rise to an unsustainable amount.
Will Bonus Borrows still be available?
Yes, Bonus Borrows will still be available when offered by hoopla. They will not count against your monthly checkout limit.
I also use Libby/Ohio Digital Library. Will this change affect that service?
No, Libby borrowing is not affected by any changes to hoopla.
