St. Mary's-St. Mary of the Annunciation Church
Colorized photo image of St. Mary's Church. Location-500 Market Street. The church building was completed and dedicated, July 31, 1871. Well known for the matched set of three working tower bells. The bells were cast in Baltimore, Maryland by the McShane Company in 1895. -
First Presbyterian Church
Colorized photo image of the First Presbyterian Church. Location-221 Court Street, corner of 3rd (Third) & Court Streets. Dedicated for worship, 1851. The oldest church building in Portsmouth. In 1973 the church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. -
All Saints Episcopal Church
Colorized photo image of the All Saints Episcopal Church located at 610 Fourth (4th) Street. Built in 1850, it was the first public building in Portsmouth to use gaslights in 1855. The building survived an interior fire in 1893 and extensive flood damage in 1937. -
Evangelical United Church of Christ
Colorized photo image of the Evangelical United Church of Christ located at 701 Fifth (5th) Street. In 1852 the original congregation was composed of German Protestant immigrants. The church building was completed and dedicated in 1887. -
Bigelow Church
Colorized photo image of the Bigelow Church located at 415 Washington Street. Originally Bigelow United Methodist, erected 1857-1858, dedicated 1859. Partially destroyed by fire in 1859 and again in 1867, re-occupied in 1869. The building survived major floods: 1889, 1913, 1921 & 1937. The church was named after Russell Bigelow a circuit rider and young minister. The building is listed on National Register of Historic Buildings. -
Evangel Temple Assembly of God
Colorized photo image of the Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church located at 802 Gay Street. The church was built and dedicated in 1925 as the B'Nai Abraham Jewish Temple. In 1975 the building was sold to the First Evangel Assembly of God. Rededicated in later years as the Evangel Temple Assembly of God. -
Second Presbyterian Church
Colorized photo image of the Second Presbyterian Church located at 801 Waller Street. Original buildings, located at Eighth (8th) & Waller Streets, were dedicated in 1875 when the First Presbyterian Church needed expansion due to a growing congregation. A new brownstone church was dedicated in 1911. A fire gutted much of the building in 1933 but was restored and re-dedicated in 1935. -
Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church

Pleasant Green Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Chapel
