The Home for Aged Women was established in 1896. The steamboat gothic style structure was located at the corner of Front & Chillicothe Streets. The home was used as a place of residence for women, 65 and older, who no longer had homes of their own or relatives to care for them. Only residents of the City of Portsmouth were admitted. The house was razed to make room for the U.S. Grant Bridge approach in 1926. - Creator
