Built in 1938. From The Portsmouth Daily Times, June 30, 1938: "Karl Wasserman has completed the erection of a new building at 618-622 Third Street in which he will conduct his new and used automobile business under the name of Wasserman Motor Sales. Mr. Wasserman will handle Graham, Nash and Lafayette as his new machines and a full line of used cars."
Prior to 1938, the location was home to a blacksmith shop. That building was razed for construction of Wasserman's building.

Estimated construction about 1900. John F. Flannigan Family resided into the 1920s. John F. Flannigan was a well known businessman in the Market Street district. His business dealings included transfer of coal, sand and gravel, household goods and pianos as a specialty.

d. January 27, 1918, Portsmouth, Ohio. Buried in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Married: Sarah A. Murphy, October 9, 1884 in Scioto County, Ohio. They had seven children.
Mrs. Flannigan remained in the house until 1924 then moved to 1117 Twenty-Second (22nd) Street. She died October 12, 1931. The house has had many residents and owners since 1924.
Built in 1849 by J.W. (John Walter) Purdum.
A History of Scioto County, Nelson W. Evans (1903): "from 1832 until 1880, Mr. Purdum engaged in contracting and building in Portsmouth, during which period he constructed many of the largest and finest public and private buildings in the city."
The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
