Sepia toned photo image of the Anderson Brothers Department Store at 301-309 Chillicothe Street. Anderson's was open from 1899 until 1935 when Sears Roebuck Department Store moved in. Two floors were added to the building in 1925. Sears closed in about 1983 and the building was later remodeled into Park Senior Apartments.
Colorized image of Soldiers' Monument in Greenlawn Cemetery. Within the new cemetery in Portsmouth in the mid to late 1800's, land was set aside after the War of the Rebellion due to there being no place to bury soldiers, known today as Soldier Circle. On May 30, 1869 the first public service was held in the cemetery, and the Ladies Aid Society purchased the Civil War Union Soldier Monument to be placed there.

Colorized image of Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth. Mercy Hospital was opened July 15, 1921 with twenty-seven beds in the expanded Baron family homestead on Kinney's Lane. In January 1923 construction of the new five story 50-bed hospital was begun. After additions and expansions in the 50's and 60's, the building was razed in 2001.
