Black and white photo image of the "Colored School" in Portsmouth. The school building was located on Eleventh (11th) Street and was erected in 1875, built primarily for African American students. The six room school could accommodate 350 students. It was opened for classes on September 1, 1876. In 1926, it was replaced by the Washington School, a more modern structure.
Black and white photo image of the spillway in Millbrook Park. The spillway's water came from the overflow of the lake. The structure was about twenty feet wide with ten inch steps running down one hundred and fifty feet. The water made a cascade that fell thirty feet, making quite a spectacle.

Colorized image of the Post Office in Wheelersburg. Around 1823, the first post office of Porter Township erected. It was named after Scioto County war hero Major Porter Wheeler's son, Porter Wheeler.
Colorized image of Raven Rock. The famous rock sits facing the junction of the Ohio and Scioto Rivers about two miles west of Portsmouth. Old Scioto County folklore says that the rock used as a lookout point for the Shawnee Indians.
