Pleasant Green Baptist Church was located at the southeast corner of Findlay and 10th (Tenth) Streets. It was founded in 1865 by six people, formerly of Allen Chapel, in the home of Ann Kerns. Later the group built a brick structure and named the church "Pleasant Green" due to the beautiful nature that surrounded the building. The first pastor was Reverend Butler Harper.
Black and white photo image of the Y. M. C. A. building in Portsmouth, Ohio. The building was built in 1906 and was located at the corner of Gallia and Norfolk Streets. It was built by the N & W Railroad for railroad employees' sleeping quarters. It was closed in 1960 and razed in 1968.
In 1900, the Railroad Y. M. C. A. was located conveniently near the N & W Railroad yards at the end of Norfolk Street. It was razed in about 1980.
The picture of the old Esplanade in 1973 also shows Marting's and the Montgomery Ward Building, later used by a bank, facing the Esplanade.
